Cambridge Pro Bono Project

Submitting a project proposal

The CPP welcomes project proposals from a wide range of sources, including NGOs, international organisations, courts, barristers and other bodies. Proposals should be emailed to cpp@law.cam.ac.uk, and include an overview of the project, as well as research objectives. Answers to common queries can be found here. We note that we are solely a research institute, and cannot provide legal advice. Rather, we research and produce a report for the project. Prior examples for each year can be found here.

Joining as a student

The CPP is led by an Executive Committee of three Faculty members and five graduate student members in the University of Cambridge. Involvement with the CPP provides a great opportunity to direct the work of the CPP, and to apply research skills in a practical context.

Each year, the CPP invites applications from PhD, LLM and MCL candidates, and MPhil students in related disciplines, for the position of Project Manager. Project Managers are responsible for supervising a project over the course of the year, including liaising with the client, managing a team of researchers, and compiling the report. Projects are to be completed prior to the Easter term to allow LLM and MCL students to focus on their exams. An application form will be distributed following the conclusion of the call for project proposals.

Following the selection of Project Managers, each project will seek a team of researchers. Researchers research and draft sections of the report as directed by their Project Manager. Researchers are usually graduate students in the University of Cambridge; however, undergraduate law students may also apply. To apply for a researcher role, separate emails will be distributed regarding involvement in specific CPP projects for 2023-2024.
