Cambridge Pro Bono Project

 

The CPP's projects for the 2022-2023 academic year are listed below. The Executive Directors of the CPP for this academic year were Rebecca Brown, Tim Cochrane, Shubham Jain, Quentin B. Schäfer and Aradhya Sethia.

1. A project considering the compatibility of criminal sanctions for climate protestors with ECHR jurisprudence and human rights law in selected European jurisdictions

The Project Manager was Ricki-Lee Gerbrandt. The research team consisted of Faruk H. AvdićJulia BartosRaphaël Fabris-DavetEponine HowarthVibhana KanwarLukas Seiler and Lukas Seiler, with editing assistance by Aisha Strohal.

The team was supervised by Dr Stephanie Palmer, Dr Stefan Theil and Professor John Bell.

2. World Bank

A project for the World Bank examining The Gambia’s legal framework on gender-based violence and best practices emerging from International Law and other jurisdictions.

3. A project on the use of sanctions to provide justice to survivors of atrocity crimes

This project investigated the potential for sanctions to be used as a tool for victims of human rights and humanitarian law abuses including atrocity crimes, investigating various domestic jurisdictions and related international law obligations.

The Project Managers were Danuta Palarczyk and Perlina Patel.  The research team consisted of Daksh Aggarwal, Marcos A. Castella, Renatus Otto Franz Derler, Ye Liu, Alexa Magee, Ilia Martynov, and Elisavet Papathanasiou.

The team was supervised by Dr Stephanie Palmer.

4. A project on the rights of Indigenous peoples in environmental and climate change cases

This project investigated the prevailing international, regional, and domestic law standards and practices concerning Indigenous rights in environmental and climate change litigation, with a particular focus on logging, mining, protection of sites and spaces, biodiversity protection, and climate change.

5. Inter-American Court of Human Rights

A report for the Inter-American Court of Human Rights on States’ rights obligations vis-à-vis polluting activities.
