The Cambridge Pro Bono Project invites proposals for research projects for our next academic year (beginning October 2025).
The CPP typically partners with organisations, including NGOs, charities, courts or barristers’ chambers, in order to produce a research report addressing a topic of interest to the project partner. Projects are usually selected on the basis of having a strong public interest dimension, and whether the topic is suitable to the available expertise within the Faculty.
We provide below a list of details that we need to assess the proposals. You can check our previous projects here. For further details, please see our FAQ.
Proposals should be emailed to cpp@law.cam.ac.uk no later than 3 October 2025.
Guidance for project proposals
There are no strict word limits or format requirements, but proposals are generally around 2-3 pages in length and should include the following information:
- Any specific deadline for the project, noting that projects undertaken by the CPP are typically completed in June in the year following commencement.
- A brief outline of the nature of requesting organisation and the purpose for which the research project is sought.
- A short summary of the topic area.
- A succinct description of the key research question(s).
- Details of the proposed methodology for the report, noting that the research is typically undertaken by a team of around a dozen LLM students.
- Finally, project proposals should contain a brief explanation of the background of the proposed project and set out the key points of what you or your organisation would like from our researchers.
